A.) Name the 2 similiar triangles in the diagram.
The 2 similiar triangles are A,D,E and the second triangle is A,B,C.

B.) What is the scale factor from the large triangle to the small triangle?
0.75
C.) What is the distance across the pond (measured along the dotted line)?
The distance through the dotted line is 52.5ft. I got that by first measuring C to E with a ruler then measuring B to C and just like a map scale I use C to E like a scale to measure B to C.

D.) On your school grounds or in your neighborhood, find a pond or some other feature, such as a park, playground, or a wooden area. Use the ideas in this problem to estimate the distance across the feature. Explain your work.

Follow up:
Is the Large triangle Darnell, Angie, and Trevor measured the only one that will work to find the distance acroos the pond? If you think of other triangles could be used, make a drawing of Bevort Pond Showing another triangle that could be measured to determine the distance across the pond. If you tink no other triangles would work, explain your thoinking.

No I think there are a lot more diffrent ways to get the measurement across the pond. You can measure it any way you want but the same rule applies to me which is to use scales to measure like on a map.
